Book Donation Drive (15 Nov 09)
“With our strength, we brought joy, relief and knowledge to all.”
On the 15th November 2009(Sunday), it is our finale for Book Donation drive. Throughout the 3 weeks of strenuous collection and tedious in sorting of books from the door-to-door visit at Pasir Ris area, I have already forgotten how many HDB blocks we have cleared within the 2 – 3hours session from each round of collection.
Our volunteers and us, we have the privileges of experiencing different people and situation such as unfriendly neighbours, scary dogs and even funny items donated but we also met kind, nice and very supportive people.
Though there was much perspiration, tiredness and all the fun and laughter in the course of our work, our effort was all paid off when I saw smiling faces on every needy family that came on that event day for the book as I realise our little effort have brought much relief and help to them. The sense of satisfaction was more than words that can actually express.

Book Donation Drive (25th Oct 09)
On 25th October 2009, 40 volunteers from Temasek Engineering School have made their way down for a massive books collection drive at the HDB flats of Pasir Ris. The objective is to give out the donated books to help students from the low income families.
Our efforts were paid off when Yong Qiang, vice chairmen of LIFE! Community service Programme, estimated that more than 1000 books (from storybooks to encyclopedias) were collected.
The Book Donation Drive showed me that there are many opportunities for me to help others. Helping others has led me to understand it is something we all should learn to do, for I strongly believe in the saying, "do unto others what you want others to do unto you".”
Ben, a student from Biomedical in Engineering has added that he has been involved in overseas community project (OCP) and if he has the time and capacity to help others back home, “why not do so?”
Likewise, Qin Yu another student who has participated in the OCP said “I volunteered for LIFE as it would enable me to help people in Singapore. Apart from that, it helps me to socialize with other people as well. It trains my communication skills.”
Indeed, it was a tiring yet meaningful time together, there is so much return and satisfaction and most of all; knowing our effort is all for a good cause!

nEbO Junior KidzQuest II
"Nothing can beats the feeling of bringing life to the kids."
On the 11th September 2009 (Friday), students from Temasek Polytechnic Engineering School volunteered and took part in the Junior KidzQuest II, organised by nEbO and L.I.F.E committee members. Some 30 children benefited this trip and they were brought by the volunteers to the Singapore Flyer where they enjoyed a ride on the world's largest giant observation wheel. The volunteers and children really had fun interacting with one another!
This event has revealed the fatherly and motherly side of the volunteers, especially from the scene of them holding on to the younger children or those who show sense of insecurity during the ride.
Even though the time spent between the students and children is short, happy faces can be seen from the volunteers and children. At the end of the event, we were reluctant to say goodbye to another and we hope to see each other again soon.

Other Quotes from volunteers:
“It has been a great experience for me!”
-Thian Seng (BZE)
“A very fulfilling experience that is certainly worth gaining!”
-Zhi Yong (AMS)
“Even though the children gets excited at times, nevertheless, its a blessing to our hearts.”
-Yong Qiang (IBT)
“A meaningful and memorable event!”

PC Project
A PC Project event was held by Young NTUC on 5th and 6th September 2009, and about 10 students from the school had volunteered for this event.
In the 2 days duration of the event, the student helpers were given a considerable number of computers to clean. As most of the computers are in use for quite an amount of time, the helpers had put in much effort to clean it to their best abilities. Some even took the extra mile in ensuring each and every part of the components are not damaged by using small and difficult to handle tools to clean the computers.
On the second day of the event, students assisted in reformatting the computers to ensure that it will run in perfect condition when delivered to the families. With no knowledge of how to reformat computers, they put in much effort to learn and do it step by step. Although slow yet it was a helping hand.
The helpers' efforts did not stop there; they continued on to deliver the computers to each and every family. At their houses they even helped them to set up the computers and called the Microsoft office to verify them computers, this was done for each and every computers that are delivered.

nEbO Junior KidzQuest 1
“SENSE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT “
That’s the three words that can be described on what was seen and felt by the volunteers after the event ended.
On 18th May, 106 participants went for a voluntary event, Junior KidzQuest , that was organised by nEbO at eXplorerkid, E!hub. The volunteers were allocated to childrens’ aged from 2 to 6 years old. These are needy children who comes from single parent families/ low income families/ or parents who for some reasons are unable to care for their children. There are also some children of special need with autism.
Faces of excitement can be seen on every volunteer when they were assigned with a kid. Though some of the kids look frightened at first, the volunteers manage to ease their uneasiness by entertaining them with the sculpture balloon that was given. The kids were first taken on a 3 minutes ride on the Ferris-wheel and then to the eXplorerkid where they had lots of fun playing.
At the end of the event, wide smile was etched on every kids face. On the other hand, the volunteer felt satisfied in being able to contribute their energy to do volunteer work that leaves a smile on other faces.
